Hey you're really spot on about English, August. And about pretentious Indians in general (I went to a college full of them, and have often been accused of being one!). Midnight's Children was great. Have you tried the Trotter-nama? A work of genius, I thought.

Hiya,

Just thought you'd like to know that The Devil-Ettes are doing a spiffy little routine to this number. It's new and we like it a lot.

That's cool that you liked The Golden Gate. My friend and I just posted an online dialogue (kind of a 2-person book-club) of the book here:

We'd love your comments if you'd be so kind as to join us.

Thanks!

thank you, thank you, thank you sooo much for posting "egyptian shumba"! i'm a fan of 60s girl groups, but i never heard of the tammys. that song is bloody amazing!! definitely my favourite song at the moment. i only recently discovered your bollywood for the skeptical and universal pop websites (both of which i love), so i'm a bit saddened to hear that you'll likely not be blogging as much since you are currently in india. i'm an indophile who has never been to india, so i'd love to hear about your time in lucknow, whether it be via this site or elsewhere. if you are on myspace, please friend me. i'd like to keep in touch with you...you've impeccable taste! xo,

Thanks for the suggestion--it looks to be worth the drive. By the way, why don't you add a book section to your website? You are obviously as literate as you are musical, and I for one would love to encourage you to keep both going.

Ahh, sadly, no, I never read that book. There's a terrific store in LA, though, called Children's Book World, and I bet they'd know.

The Phantom Tollbooth and A Wrinkle in Time--what a wonderful trip down memory lane. I am now itching to get my hands on Bluebear. Good children's books for adults (am thinking Harry Potter here)are a wonderful way to take the edge off boring, everyday reality. This question is a real stretch, but I'm just hoping that once upon a time you read a book about a traveling story teller with a donkey or mule (possibly named Tinker) who carried a crystal on her back. As I recall, the storyteller uncoverd the crystal and read what he saw. does that ring a bell?

Cool! I didn't even know there was a Dev Benegal - seems he's Shyam's nephew? Is he any good otherwise? I've been meaning to watch this movie; I'll try to find it when I'm in India.
